Factory Engineered Concrete - Perfect Precast
Factory engineered concrete allows the superstructure to be completed very quickly and finishing trades to commence simultaneously. Concrete cross wall (panel) systems can be used in any repeatable cellular structure, such as custodial premises, hotels and student accommodation. Typically these are also applications where the robustness of concrete is also a benefit.
The benefits associated with concrete construction include:
- robust construction which can take a lot of abuse from the occupants
- passive fire protection and natural good sound attenuation
- can be cast with a fair face for direct decoration which can save on finishing cost
- inherently high thermal mass with the potential to achieve good comfort levels
Precast concrete represents circa 25% of the market for cementitious products in the UK and includes a wide range of products used in the construction industry such as blocks, suspended floors, structural frames, other structural elements, bridges, cast stone and architectural cladding.
Precast technology is widely used in Europe and it is likely that this knowledge and these techniques will make headway into the UK over the next few years. There are current issues concerning costs in relation to the high volumes required to make it cost effective, significant cranage capacity is required, and mechanical and electrical services have to be incorporated within the cast in-situ ducting or be surface mounted.
This sector has seen a significant resurgence in recent times and has developed some of the most innovative offsite solutions available in the market place.
